The Community Health Inspector (CHI) program was launched to bring basic health services beyond hospitals and health centers, right to people's doorsteps. It began as a pilot in four districts in June 2025, followed by its official provincial launch in Lahore on January 7, 2026.
The idea behind the program is preventive healthcare — catching health issues early rather than treating them after they've become serious. To do this, CHIs go door to door, building a digital record for each household, conducting basic screening, and referring people to the right health facility when needed.
A CHI's job isn't just data entry. At each household, the process runs through several stages: household registration, then family profiling, then individual profiling, health data collection, basic screening, spreading awareness, and finally referral and follow-up where needed. All of this gets recorded digitally through the CHI app.
